What is a Dermatologist?

Center for Surgical Dermatology & Dermatology Associates is here for all your Dermatologic needs.

A dermatologist is a physician who specializes in skin care. Dermatologists receive extensive training in medical and surgical treatments for skin problems and have the best understanding and knowledge to help keep skin healthy.  A “general” dermatologist sees patients with all types of skin concerns.

After earning a medical degree and completing an internship, all dermatologists receive three more years of specialty training entirely dedicated to the diagnosis and management of diseases related to skin, hair, and nails.  This is called a dermatology residency.

Some dermatologists become sub-specialists and gain additional training and expertise in specific areas of dermatology, such as surgery, pediatrics, pathology, or cosmetics, and go on to have practices specializing in these areas.

With this extensive training and experience, a dermatologist is the ideal physician to accurately diagnosis and treat conditions to keep skin, hair, and nails healthy throughout your lifetime.
