Microneedling

What is Microneedling?

A microneedling treatment is a minimally-invasive cosmetic procedure that involves a trained dermatologist or aesthetician using a unique tool inlaid with small needles to produce micro-injuries to the skin.

These micro-injuries stimulate the immune system and trigger an inflammatory reaction. Once this happens, a cascade of events occur that lead up to the development and deposition of new collagen and elastic fibers, which rejuvenates and revitalizes the skin.

Microneedling uses a special tool to produce micro-injuries to the skin, which stimulates collagen and elastin development. This rejuvenates the skin and improves everything from skin tone and texture to acne and pore size!

There are several benefits to microneedling, including:

  • Reducing the look of dark spots, sun spots, and age spots.
  • Improving hyperpigmentation.
  • Brightening dull, lackluster skin.
  • Helping with acne and blackheads.
  • Reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Improving surgical scars.
  • Shrinking oversized pores.
  • Improving the look of acne scars.
  • Reduce skin discoloration, such as that from acne or sun damage.

Do you have a skin issue you think might be improved with microneedling? Contact the Center for Surgical Dermatology to learn more or schedule a microneedling treatment in Westerville, OH.

Microneedling can improve or treat several skin conditions, such as signs of aging (fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots), uneven skin tone and texture, skin discoloration, enlarged pores, acne and scars from acne, hyperpigmentation (such as melasma), dyschromia, and dull skin.

Yes, microneedling can improve the look of some acne scars, specifically the type of acne scars that lie flat on the skin, rather than indentation scars. Microneedling helps to increase collagen, which is essential for healing scars and smoothing out the skin.

The amount of treatments needed to see results depends on your unique skin care and cosmetic goals. In most cases, a series of treatments is ideal to achieve maximum results and see the biggest changes in the skin. This usually ranges from three to six microneedling treatment sessions spaced two to four weeks apart.

This depends on a number of factors. Prices are often based on the expertise and qualifications of the person performing the treatment, time and effort the procedure requires, and the geographic location of the office.
